July 31, 2018 Asilah, Morocco
I made it to Asilah, Morocco today. A beautiful seaside village much like Ayampe, Ecuador but smaller. I'll be swimming in the open Atlantic, close to the shore of course. But it's very tranquilo, and people are swimmg here. My host is a French woman in her 50s and I've met a Frenchman my age who surfs, and a Spanish woman who swims. A y way, apparently there is no wifi so until I purchase more saldo for my phone I won't send any photos. I'll be here for seven days. I'll send simple messages letting you know how I am. 08/01: Still in areas of Morocco where Spanish is sometimes spoken so I'm squeaking by. The French is moving slowly but surely. I'm on a beautiful Atlantic beach. Plenty of local swimmers and lifeguards so in not alone and am being watched. The water is terrific. Went into town 3 times already. But these are scouting excursions to see if I can survive with my abbreviated language skills such as economical transport - small buses instead of taxis; data and minutes for my cell phone chip, which proved to be an interesting adventure; looking for good coffee. The swimming here has been different from day to day, but safe and satisfying. We had intensive hot winds for the past couple of days, but today was amazing! And the water was very calm and clear.
